About me
What is your favorite part of being a musician?
Channeling the things I experience and learn through writing songs, connecting with people I meet during performing, using “ah, maybe I’ll wear this on stage once” as an excuse to myself every time I buy a glitter dress.
Did you always work in music?
Short story: No. Long story:
As a kid my favourite part was driving to Hilversum to record with the ensemble Jody’s Kids by Jody Pijper. When I was ten years old, I ended up in the finals of Nickelodeon: Superstar The Battle. I loved sassily singing on stage, but then a new friend came into my life: self-doubt. Me and Mr Self Doubt became besties, and I replaced the microphone for a pen, and graduated as a journalist.
While working at a radio station, it suddenly dawned on me that actually it was only me who was the one stopping myself from doing what I love the most! So I auditioned for The Voice Of Holland, made it to the Blind Auditions, and almost died from being on the stage for the first time in a decade. But after watching those chairs from the back and walking back home, there was no going back: I was going to be a singer again.
What is the best concert you have gone to?
How to choose when your musical taste goes from Tame Impala to Ariana Grande to Marvin Gaye to Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. Not that I saw Marvin Gaye live but, you know what I mean.
If you had the world’s attention for 30 Seconds, what would wou say?
LOVE IS REAL, EVERYBODY DESERVES EQUAL RIGHTS, PLEASE BE NICE TO THE WORLD ‘CAUSE WE ALL DON’T KNOW WHAT ON EARTH WE’RE DOING AND WE JUST WANNA BE HAPPY, CHEESE IS THE MOST DISGUSTING THING IN THE WORLD
